Behavior Consultations

Cat Not Acting
Very Classy?

If you are seeking help for a specific cat behavior problem, a behavior consultation with Class Act Cats is the way to go. Learn more about what a behavior consultation involves, prices, and book your first session right from this page!

Cat Behavior Training To Address Unwanted Behaviors

Behavior consultations help with unwanted behaviors like litter box usage, biting, fighting cats, and more. Before resorting to undesirable outcomes like rehoming, let me help! I can give an objective, non-judgmental assessment of your situation and come up with a personalized plan for what to do. We’ll go over environmental factors, human factors, your cat’s history, and more to come up with a solution.

A behavior consultation involves the following:

  • A pre-meeting intake form that goes over basic information about your cat, household, goals, and the behavior we’re going to address.
  • A live (either in virtual or in home) meeting to discuss more details and develop a plan that provides solutions to the behavior problem.
  • Follow up support to alter the behavior modification plan as you implement it to make any adjustments based on how your cat responds.
  • For cat behavior problems that are more complex (such as cat conflict), option to schedule additional, shorter follow up sessions to keep working.

If you want to ask questions before booking, you can ask them via e-mail, text, or our contact form. I am unable to do phone calls with prospective clients, but please reach out via another method with any questions as I am happy to answer them!  As a friendly reminder, I cannot give behavior advice without setting up a consultation.

Initial Consultation

The first step to determining how to help your cat is booking an initial 90ish minute session (sometimes we go a bit over). Initial consultations can be done virtually wherever you are located or in home if you are within my service area. We’ll go over your cat’s history and their behavior in depth and figure out what the root cause of the problem is. We’ll come up with a plan that is as low stress as possible to start addressing the problem. Some situations, especially cases involving cat conflict, will require multiple sessions to address. I offer shorter follow up sessions for continuing to address your cat’s behavior. Information on follow up sessions is available below.

When you book your initial session, you can include an additional 30 minute virtual follow up and extend the e-mail/text follow up period for $60. I don’t usually offer 30 minute follow up sessions outside of my reintroduction program so this is a great way to ensure the problem gets addressed.

This session is to go over what’s going on with your cat and come up with an initial plan.

Zoomies Session

Have a quick question about cats? Have a single minor problem you want to address that doesn’t need a full session? This is the option for you! Much like the zoomies in cats, this session is quick and will help get you the advice you need! Examples of problems that can be addressed in a short session include cats waking you up at night, counter surfing, and your cat nibbling on your plants.

Zoomies sessions are better for annoying behaviors. House soiling/litter box-related behaviors, fighting cats/conflict between cats, aggression toward humans, and any situation where euthanasia is being considered always require a full consultation.

I’m happy to help clarify if you’re not sure which route to go!

Important Note: If you have multiple minor problems, these sessions are too short to go over multiple problems in enough detail to adequately address each of them. A regular behavior consultation is a better choice.

Suitable for a single minor problem or if you just want to pick my brain about something.

Follow Up Sessions

For many behavior problems, you will need multiple sessions to solve them. This is especially true if you have fighting cats. Cat behavior is complex and I have solutions, but you should expect it to take time to resolve many behavior concerns. It also prevents us from having to squeeze too much into a single session.

Follow up sessions are done virutally unless I have a specific reason I recommend another in home session. Sessions are $90 for a 45 minutes session or  $120 for 60 minutes and can be purchased individually.

When booking your initial session, you can also opt to add on a virtual 30 minute follow up session. 30 minute sessions are only available as an add on to your first session unless you are accepted into my reintroduction program.

In Home Session Costs And Service Area

Most of the time, virtual consultations are the better way to do an assessment as I get to see your cat behave closer to how they normally behavior and it is less stressful for them. It’s also more relaxing for you as you get to hang out at home and don’t have to worry about your kitty being thrown off by a stranger showing up. I do offer in home sessions for those who want one and are located within a reasonable drive. This involves extra time and travel expenses so these sessions are more expensive.

You are limited to one in home session per client unless I specifically recommend another in home session.

My service area is within a 20 minute drive of Bde Maka Ska Playground located at 2707 W Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55416. If you are outside my service area, I am unable to offer in home sessions.

The service area for in home appointments includes Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Golden Valley, New Hope, Brooklyn Center, Plymouth, Fridley, Columbia Heights, New Brighton, Fridley, Crystal, Robbinsdale, St. Anthony, Lauderdale, Roseville, Falcon Heights, Arden Hills, Edina, Minnetonka, and surrounding suburbs. Note that this area is subject to change so please ask if you’re interested in an in person appointment and aren’t sure if you’re within that area.

Virtual appointments can be conducted for those in greater Minnesota or anywhere else in the world!
